I just think that this whole failure to contain the oil spill of the Gulf Coast is just an enormous sign from the universe. Its like the saying goes “There are no such things as Coincidences”. I mean there are exceptions to the rule, but I think in this case its “BLOP”! in front of all our faces. Our economy is shit! Jobs are withering away due to outsourcing (which by the way is the reason why we are not on top anymore). We owe trillions of dollars to China, right along with Europe. We are growing exponentially and will not have the resources to sustain life….. we’ve already established technologies to send fossil fuels back to the stone age; yet we are really the ones to blame for not using them. Its called SUPPLY AND DEMAND ladies and gentlemen.
DONT BLAME BP
DONT BLAME THE OBAMA administration
BLAME YOURSELF for not standing up for whats right.
Sucks Balls right?!
Thus, the introduction to my new painting, “The Gulf of ‘BP’”
People have been asking where to buy my original pieces or even prints of my pieces… Here’s the link below to purchase otherwise you can visit the shop page:
I’ve been trying to work more on my imagination than anything else due to an article I read in HI FRUCTOSE (an awesome magazine) by Jen Pappas about Greg “Crola” Simkins. The man has incredible talent. His painting skills and his imagination go hand in hand. I’m not going to go into details about the article but, I will say for those who want to know more you should check his series of paintings called “The Pearl Thief”. Amazing vivid paintings of strange characters with back stories to go along with them. I was so inspired that I started wondering where I wanted to go with my work. Thus the introduction to my new piece and maybe even my new series.
I remember getting into an arguement with my girlfriend…getting frustrated… going into my studio and starting to paint. Little by little I saw this little figure popping out. He looked a little sad like he was sorry so I put a little heart next to him. This is one of my first abstract pieces and I liked how all the colors complimented each other. This whole canvas was done in spray paint, which was a new medium for me. Sometimes I often wonder about other beings from other planets and how advanced they would be and how they would know that “all we need is love”…lol! Especially like in the direction that this world is going, I tend to get a little depressed. We are so advanced yet so primitive at the same time.
To kick off your BlackTearInk blog, I think the visitors would like to know more about you, Jose… the real Jose…the one that likes to lock himself in his art studio til the wee hours of the morning. Let’s start this interview off right…Please introduce yourself to the world and let us know a little bit about you and how you got started with your art.
JG: Hello Everyone… I’m Jose. I like to draw.. haha! ok let’s be serious…I started drawing when I was younger and I was pretty decent, but for some strange reason I just stopped. I ended up picking up guitar. I’ve always been a creative person, always wanting to create. When I was growing up, I wanted to become a rockstar. I tried my hardest but it just didn’t work out. I needed a creative outlet so I started drawing again because I wanted to become a tattoo artist. Little by little I just started going deeper and deeper into the art world. I wanted to experience different mediums and bigger canvases instead of just confined to skin. So my girlfriend started suggesting that I start messing around with different mediums. So I did and here I am today.
Wow! So you’ve been doing this for awhile now. What inspired your works?
JG: I mean everything inspires me… From web designs that my girlfriend is working on to just walking down the street, looking at signs… art is everywhere. The problem is staying inspired.
Very true. It’s hard to stay inspired when everyone goes through “writers block”. Did you ever feel like giving up?
JG: Yeah, tons of times. But this is something I love to do. I consider it a hobby and if it gets me money in the long run and if I can make a career out of it, the better.
Yeah that should be everyone’s prerogative in life… do something you love and if it makes you money, that’s the bonus. Which of your art pieces is your favorite?
JG: Yeah actually, the titled piece “A Little Bit of Me” in my paintings section. I don’t know why, it just has something about it that I love.
Is there any artists you relate to?
JG: There are 3 artists that I hope to be like and look up to… Dave Kinsey, Johnny Rodriguez and Greg Simkins. Their talent and imagination go hand to hand. I could just hope to be like them a few years down the line.
Yeah their work is amazing. All their work is very unusual but very captivating. What would you call your style?
JG: I really don’t know. I’m not that educated in art terms and stuff like that. I’m a self taught artist. I know I do a lot of abstract but those are my first series of paintings. I really want my next series to be more towards the surreal realm. I want to mix abstract with surrealism and possibly some urban art also. Basically put a little bit of everything into a painting that would work coherently with each other.
To finish off this interview, what would you like to accomplish in the future with your art?
JG: I would like to finish maybe two more series of my artwork and hopefully hook up with other artists and definitely learn a lot more and maybe get my own exhibition one day. maybe.. =)
